Winter 2012
By: Alexa Tomaszewski Notes: In the final piece of the collection I share with you an unpublished mini-story I created but ultimately was never published due to space and time restrictions. Want to travel in style? Miss Kitching has some tips!
“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.” –Jack Kerouac
Never know what to bring when you’re traveling? Confused about what to pack for your next trip to the Big Apple? Or LA? Audrey’s on the road every three weeks and relying on a relaxing baths and yummy grub like Pho soup or sushi, she keeps the stress as low as possible.
For Kitching having a few key items on hand can make time away more enjoyable and less hectic. In an interview with GLASSbook magazine she tells fans and followers what she dubs traveling essentials.

Shirt: Urban
Shorts: Bambi and Mason
Belt: my own DIY

Alexa: Would you say you style changes depending on which coast you are on – whether it’s New York or Los Angeles or Philadelphia?
Audrey: I guess it’s sort of like you adapt to your surroundings. When I’m in California it’s about sheer dresses, sandals, wedges and flowers cause it’s kind of like that atmosphere where you’re near the beach.
When I’m in New York it’s more heavy coats, fake fur coats, leggings and knee high boots its more city style.
Then, in Philly [Kitching’s hometown] it’s kind of a mix between both. It’s laid back. It’s not as dressed up and when I’m in Philly I bring leggings, a pull over, a comfy scarf and a beanie.
Alexa: When you’re traveling do you have any must have items that you bring along with you?
Audrey: Normally I’m traveling about every three weeks and I’m on an airplane. I hate flying. It’s my kryptonite, so I really hate it. I always bring my iPad, headphones, and lots of rings because you can dress up any boring outfit if you just put on a ton of rings and sunglasses.
Style wise I would say oversize, comfy t-shirts and flats because when you travel you end up walking for like ever, especially in a place like New York City.
Alexa: Is there a place that you have traveled where you felt really inspired?
Audrey: I think St. Elizabeth’s in California, it’s kind of in the middle; if you’re going up the coast from LA and you’re going to San Francisco it’s kind of that middle point where Pismo Beach is, I stumbled upon it by accident last time I was out there and it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s kind of like a San Francisco-type city but it’s on the beach so the style there and the vibe is perfect.
