I had the pleasure of seeing the incredible Beyonce during her Mrs. Carter tour as it came through Toronto, Ontario on July 21, 2013.

The show was fabulous and included a myriad of hits from all albums, and even a few favorite tunes like the Destiny’s Child classic Survivor and her own Single Ladies. She also covered Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.
With six different outfits and an amazing back up crew of dancers there was never a dull moment. Filled with sparkles, dry ice, and confetti there was no expense spared to make the show feel more like a party. The Air Canada Center was filled with screaming fans, mostly women, all of which knew every lyric to every song.
The show was also accompanied by a series of complex videos. Those fans who watched Life is but a Dream will recognized much of the content in these videos, as well as the dance sequences created around them. These are the fans who appreciate how hands on Beyonce is in the process of putting on a production like this. Literally down to every dance move and the casting of every light, Beyonce ensures her show goes exactly to plan by overseeing the vast majority of planning.

I truly enjoyed the fashions incorporated into this show.
From all black to all white body suits, to a full on skin-tight sparkly blue bodysuit, to floor length gowns ending with a studded white body suit only to compliment the skilled use of lights in the Air Canada Center, creating a perfect silhouette of the singers incredible body allowing all attention on her incredible singing voice.
My favorite outfits where the wild, jungle inspired looks Mrs. Carter and her crew of dancers rocked during Grown Woman. How much fun is peplum and print to do what whatever you want?

Miley Cyrus may have come up with ‘twerking it’ but Beyonce owns it like it’s a form of art. This woman can move and you would never guess in a million years she was born to do anything else, like be a designer, mother or wife. Beyonce was born, very clearly, for the stage.
With her female force of a band, Beyonce is strictly backed up by women who can really wail on their instruments. This is no Britney Spears show. The music was raw and real and flawless. These musicians are masters of their craft and I was as blown away as one might be after a show by a class band like Blue Rodeo or Coldplay.
Mrs. Carter is a force. They talk about U2 being one of the biggest selling bands in terms of live shows. Well, I would argue that Beyonce is quickly matching, if not on the fast route to surpassing the U2 route to fame and glory.

But, like the boys of U2, Beyonce and her team know how to deliver and that’s what it’s all about: Putting on a good show to keep the fans coming back.
Between the sing-along line-up of songs, the outfits, and the showmanship, the Mrs. Carter tour is definitely something I would recommend if you’re looking for some summer fun and have a few bucks to throw around.
Usually I’m quick to recommend a five-piece band with a lyrical mastermind fronting guitar driven rock and roll.
But Beyonce offers a fair share of good old fashion rock and roll in her tour, and not for a moment will you find you can take your eyes off her, or the stage. In all truth, the only thing missing was a Jay Z cameo and a Bonnie and Clyde mash up to make the evening truly complete. What can I say, other than, I’m just ‘crazy in love’!
